Description
Defzen 12 contains Deflazacort, an immunosuppressive steroid used to treat Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) in adults and children over 2 years old. Autoimmune diseases occur when the immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s own cells, causing inflammation and tissue damage. Deflazacort works by binding to immune cells and suppressing their abnormal activity, reducing inflammation caused by chemical messengers called cytokines.
This medication helps control autoimmune disorders and inflammation that affect organs, joints (such as arthritis), and skin (such as psoriasis). It also supports organ transplantation by preventing immune rejection and is effective in treating muscle disorders like Duchenne muscular dystrophy by slowing muscle damage and improving muscle strength.

Directions for Use
- Deflazacort can be taken with or without food.
- It is usually taken once daily at the same time each day or as prescribed by your doctor.
- Swallow Deflazacort as a whole with a glass of water.
- Do not crush or chew this medication.
- If you cannot swallow the tablet as a whole, you may break it in half and take both halves separately.
Side Effects
Most of the side effects of Deflazacort do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects are persistent, reach out to your doctor. Common side effects include upper respiratory tract infection, excessive abdominal fat, runny or stuffy nose, skin redness, irritability, abdominal discomfort or pain, irregular behaviour, fever, back pain, acne, nausea, restlessness, nosebleeds and stretch marks.
